Assam Reports Fresh Rise in COVID-19 Cases

Assam has reported around 80–90 new COVID-19 cases in Upper Assam during July and August, with infections rising since late June. Health experts said the currently circulating RF.5 Omicron subvariant has so far caused mostly mild, flu-like symptoms, with no indication of severe illness.

Influenza A and B are also circulating in the state. While experts have urged people not to panic, senior citizens, pregnant women and those with underlying health conditions have been advised to take extra precautions as health authorities continue monitoring the situation.
