Grenade Recovered at BJP Candidate’s Residence in Assam Ahead of Polls

Tension rose in Sarupathar, Golaghat district, after a grenade was recovered from the residence of BJP candidate Biswajit Phukan on Sunday evening, just days before the Assembly elections.

Police said unidentified miscreants likely hurled the explosive from outside the compound around 8:50 pm. The area was immediately secured, and a bomb disposal squad was called in. Officials noted that the grenade’s safety lever was missing, suggesting possible tampering.

Authorities are examining CCTV footage to trace those involved, while no motive has been confirmed so far.

The candidate’s family has demanded a thorough investigation and strict action against the culprits. They also claimed a similar incident occurred last year during the house’s construction.

The incident has raised security concerns in the region as campaigning enters its final phase ahead of polling day.
