Congress Faces Fresh Setback as Udalguri Candidate Suren Daimary Withdraws Before Polls

A day before the Assam Assembly elections, the Indian National Congress suffered a setback as its Udalguri candidate Suren Daimary resigned and withdrew from the race, citing lack of support and communication from party leadership.

Daimary alleged that after receiving the party ticket, he was left without guidance or assistance, forcing him to step down. He also criticized the party’s limited focus and lack of commitment to all communities in the constituency.

With his exit, the Udalguri contest is now expected to be mainly between Dipen Boro of the United People’s Party Liberal and Rihon Daimary of the Bodoland People’s Front.

The development adds to a series of recent Congress exits. Senior leader Pradyut Bordoloi and former APCC president Bhupen Borah had also resigned earlier and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party.

Daimary’s withdrawal ahead of polling on April 9 is likely to impact the electoral dynamics in Udalguri and deepen Congress’ pre-election challenges.
