Assam Polls: Final Preparations Intensified Across Districts Ahead of Voting

With Assam set to vote, election authorities on Wednesday ramped up final preparations, including EVM distribution, deployment of polling staff, and усиление security to ensure smooth and peaceful polling.
In Kamrup Metro, officials gathered at the Maniram Dewan Trade Centre to collect voting materials. The district has 1,218 polling stations across five constituencies, covering over 10 lakh voters, including 120 all-women polling stations and model booths in each constituency.
In Nalbari, preparations are complete for 6.25 lakh voters across three constituencies, with 825 polling stations, including 150 marked as sensitive. District Commissioner Nibedan Das Patowary confirmed webcasting at all booths and special arrangements like all-women polling stations and model booths with added facilities.
Kokrajhar district has set up 944 polling stations for over 7 lakh voters. District Election Officer Dr P Uday Praveen said full security and logistical measures are in place, with over 4,000 personnel deployed and 33 companies of central forces ensuring safety. SSP Akshat Garg added that border sealing and intensified checks are underway.
Polling for the first phase will be held from 7 am to 5 pm on April 9, with international observers also arriving in Guwahati under the International Election Visitors Programme to monitor the process.
