Assam Votes 2026: Brisk Turnout as Polling Begins Across 126 Constituencies

Voting for the Assam Assembly Elections 2026 began at 7 am under tight security, with polling underway at 31,486 stations statewide. By 9 am, a steady 17.93% voter turnout was recorded, with people turning out in good numbers despite overcast weather.
Key leaders, including Ranoj Pegu, Ashok Singhal, and Congress leader Mira Borthakur, were among early voters.
Across districts, polling remained smooth and peaceful. Golaghat (18.88%) and Biswanath (19.08%) reported strong turnout, while Jorhat (18.25%) witnessed keen interest in the high-profile contest between Gaurav Gogoi and Hitendra Nath Goswami.
Dibrugarh (15.65%), Nalbari (17.46%), Digboi (17.76%), and Kokrajhar (15.75%) also saw steady participation, with voters queuing early at polling stations.
Over 2.49 crore voters are set to decide the fate of 722 candidates across 126 constituencies in what is shaping up to be a closely watched electoral contest.
