Brahmaputra Erosion Threatens Dighaltarang Tea Estate in Assam

Severe erosion caused by the Brahmaputra River has badly affected Dighaltarang Tea Estate under Doomdooma Revenue Circle, washing away large areas of tea plantation and threatening key infrastructure, including the factory, hospital, school and workers’ quarters.

Reports said around 35.48 hectares of land have already been lost, putting nearly 1,474 families at risk. Tea workers’ organisations have demanded urgent government intervention, alleging that earlier erosion-control measures were inadequate and poorly executed.
