Green Initiative in Teok Named “Zubeen Seuj Chapori” to Honour Zubeen Garg

A group of youths and local residents in Jajimukh, Teok, has launched a major afforestation drive on a Brahmaputra sandbank in memory of Assamese artist Zubeen Garg. The area has been named “Zubeen Seuj Chapori.”

Led by Rupak Tayung, the initiative aims to restore the region’s lost ecological balance by planting nearly 10,000 Seemul saplings. The organisers hope the plantation drive will help bring back vultures, migratory birds and wildlife once found in the area.

Residents said the project also aims to reduce riverbank erosion and promote environmental conservation while carrying forward Zubeen Garg’s ideals towards nature protection.
