Heavy Rains Expose Flood Risks in Silchar, Authorities Step Up Measures

Heavy rainfall in Silchar has triggered waterlogging in areas like Bilpar, Radhamadhab Road, and Link Road, highlighting weaknesses in drainage and flood control systems. Road conditions have worsened, especially near the SMCH stretch.

BJP leader Rajdeep Roy inspected vulnerable embankments at Betukandi and noted a weak dyke section, with preventive repairs underway and possible relocation of a few families. Meanwhile, the Cachar administration, led by DC Aayush Garg, has intensified desilting, drain clearance, and anti-encroachment drives to improve flood preparedness.

Despite these efforts, early rains have already exposed gaps, raising concerns as the monsoon season approaches.
