BJP Strengthens Hold in Barak Valley, Congress Retains Key Pockets

The BJP emerged as the dominant force in Barak Valley in the 2026 Assam Assembly elections, winning 9 out of 13 seats and strengthening its political hold in the region.

Kaushik Rai said the results reflected growing public trust in the leadership of Himanta Biswa Sarma and Narendra Modi. Rai himself secured a massive victory in Lakhipur.

Despite the BJP wave, Congress managed to retain four seats, including Sonai and North and South Karimganj. Youth Congress leader Jubair Anam Mazumder also registered a huge win in Algapur-Katlicherra, showing that the party still holds influence in select areas.
