Suspected Militant Killed in Police Encounter in Assam’s Cachar

A suspected militant linked to drug peddling was killed during a police operation in Assam’s Cachar district late Wednesday night. The deceased, identified as Sailun Daungel alias Lulun from Manipur, was accused in a recent firing incident that injured an Assam Police havildar.

Police said the accused attacked security personnel while leading them to a hidden weapon in the Jirighat area, prompting retaliatory firing in self-defence. He was later taken to Silchar Medical College and Hospital, where he died during treatment.

According to Cachar Police, preliminary inputs suggest he had links with a banned militant outfit and was involved in drug trafficking activities. Investigation and search operations are continuing.
