Assam’s Power Demand Likely to Cross 3,000 MW This Summer

Assam’s electricity demand is rising steadily and is expected to cross 3,000 MW during peak summer hours this year. Currently, the state generates around 400 MW on its own, while the remaining demand is met through power purchase agreements.

Officials said several new hydro and thermal power projects are being planned and commissioned to strengthen Assam’s power supply from 2030 onwards. The state is also expanding projects like the Lower Kopili Hydroelectric Project to meet future demand.
