Barpeta Police Arrest Alleged Online Fraudster in Multi-Lakh Scam

Barpeta Police have arrested Dharmeswar Roy, alias Jitu Roy, for allegedly cheating several people across Assam using fake identities on social media and online platforms.

Police said the accused posed as a businessman, contractor and government officer to gain victims’ trust. He allegedly extorted over Rs 10 lakh from a woman by promising her a job and also duped others through fake vehicle sale and rental deals on OLX.

Officials said 22 cheating cases have already been registered against him at multiple police stations across the state. Further investigation is underway.
