APCC Supports Assam Government’s Austerity Measures, Suggests More Cost-Cutting Steps

Assam Pradesh Congress Committee has supported the Assam government’s austerity measures and urged stricter steps to improve the state’s financial condition.

Senior Congress leader Debabrata Saikia wrote to Himanta Biswa Sarma suggesting cuts in government expenditure, including reducing luxury official events, limiting helicopter use, stopping costly inaugurations and reducing cabinet size.

Saikia also called for greater transparency in government spending and urged proper feasibility studies before approving major infrastructure projects. He raised concerns over rising project costs and questioned the effectiveness of some expensive flyover projects in easing traffic congestion.
