ASF Outbreak in Tinsukia Triggers Emergency Restrictions in Sadiya

Sadiya has been placed under strict emergency measures after an outbreak of African Swine Fever was detected in North Rangpuria village under Kakopathar. The Tinsukia district administration declared the village as the epicentre and imposed containment measures to prevent the spread of the highly contagious disease among pigs.
Areas within a one-kilometre radius have been marked as the infected zone, while locations within 10 kilometres are under surveillance. Culling operations are being carried out from May 27 to May 29 under veterinary supervision, following national ASF containment protocols.
The administration has also banned the sale and transport of pigs and pork products across Sadiya co-district for 30 days or until further notice. Pork shops and related businesses have been ordered to shut, and transportation of pigs to neighbouring districts and Arunachal Pradesh has been restricted.
Officials clarified that African Swine Fever does not affect humans but can cause severe losses to pig farmers due to its high fatality rate among pigs and wild boars. Authorities have urged residents and traders not to panic and to cooperate fully with containment efforts.
