Alleged Loan Fraudster Arrested for Cheating Farmers Across Assam

Guwahati: Police have arrested alleged fraudster Hemanta Kumar Gogoi from Dibrugarh for reportedly cheating hundreds of people by promising loans through an organisation named “Assam Rajya Krishak Samannay Samiti.”

According to police, Gogoi allegedly collected money from farmers across Rangia, Boko, Karbi Anglong and several Upper Assam districts on the promise of arranging easy loans. Victims claimed they neither received the promised loans nor refunds.

Investigators said the accused had appointed local agents to expand the network and collect money from applicants. Multiple cases have been registered against him at Garchuk, Rangia and Sonapur police stations.

Police further stated that Gogoi had previously been arrested in 2024 by Silchar Police in connection with similar fraud allegations. Further investigation is underway.
