70 Apply for Indian Citizenship Under CAA in Assam, Six Granted Citizenship

Guwahati: A total of 70 people have applied for Indian citizenship under the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) in Assam, and six applicants have been granted citizenship so far, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma informed the Assam Legislative Assembly on Monday.

The Chief Minister also stated that 1,72,673 foreigners have been identified under the Assam Accord, while 31,789 have been expelled from the state till June 30. Cases involving 73,759 suspected foreigners are currently pending before Foreigners’ Tribunals, and 174 identified foreigners are being housed at the Matia transit camp in Goalpara.
