Assam Govt Plans to Develop Badarpur Fort as Heritage Tourism Destination

Guwahati: The Assam government has announced plans to promote the historic Badarpur Fort in Sribhumi district as a major heritage tourism destination while preserving its historical authenticity. Tourism Minister Ajanta Neog informed the Assembly that the fort, protected under the Assam Ancient Monuments and Records Act, has already undergone conservation work with an allocation of ₹50 lakh during 2023–24.

The government said future tourism development will be carried out in coordination with the Directorate of Archaeology. BJP MLA Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha also urged the government to rename the monument as the Govinda Chandra Memorial Fort, install a statue of the Dimasa ruler, and highlight the fort’s historical significance for visitors.
