Forest Guards Fired Upon While Preventing Illegal Logging at Assam-Arunachal Border

Biswanath: Tension prevailed along the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border in Biswanath district on Tuesday after armed miscreants allegedly opened fire on forest guards who tried to stop illegal tree felling inside the Behali Reserved Forest. Officials said around 16 rounds were fired, forcing the guards to retreat.

Sonitpur MP Ranjit Dutta, district officials and forest authorities later visited the site. Dutta alleged that illegal logging has increased in the area and said the state government is monitoring the situation. The district administration has assured that a fresh report on the incident will be submitted to the Assam government.
