Male Leopard Captured at Jorhat Tea Estate Amid Rising Sightings

Jorhat, Assam: A male leopard was captured by the Forest Department at Tilikiam Tea Estate in western Jorhat on Wednesday after it reportedly strayed into nearby human settlements and preyed on livestock.

The leopard, estimated to be 7–8 years old, was trapped in a cage installed by the Jorhat Forest Division following repeated sightings. It has been shifted to the Jorhat Regional Forest Office for observation and will be released into a suitable forest habitat after obtaining necessary approval.

Forest officials said this is the third leopard captured in Jorhat within a week, indicating an increase in leopard movement into human-inhabited areas.
