Fresh Tension Flares Along Assam–Nagaland Border in Golaghat

Golaghat: Fresh tension erupted along the disputed Assam–Nagaland border in Golaghat’s Sarupathar subdivision after an Assamese youth was allegedly assaulted during a confrontation over a purported census survey in Chainpur No. 2 village under the South Nambor Reserved Forest. The injured youth, Chani Kapur Toppo, was admitted to hospital and is reported to be in stable condition.

Local residents alleged that individuals from Nagaland were conducting an illegal census survey in Assam’s territory, leading to a clash in which several people were reportedly injured. The incident has renewed concerns over the long-standing border dispute, with villagers demanding stronger government intervention to maintain peace and prevent further escalation.
