Assam Repatriated 1,679 Illegal Bangladeshi Immigrants in Two Years: CM

Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma informed the Assembly that 1,679 illegal Bangladeshi immigrants were repatriated from the state between July 1, 2024, and June 30, 2026, following due identification. He said the process included deportation, expulsion, and voluntary return, while ensuring that no individual with a pending case before the High Court or Supreme Court was repatriated.

Sarma added that citizenship matters are handled under the Centre’s laws, and the state government follows all legal procedures while safeguarding the human rights of those involved.
