Assam to Consult Locals on Kaziranga Eco-Sensitive Zone

Dergaon: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said the state government will consult communities living around Kaziranga while implementing the Supreme Court’s direction on the Eco-Sensitive Zone (ESZ). He said local concerns would be considered while finalising the zone.

Sarma stressed that protecting Kaziranga requires the cooperation of surrounding communities and said the government would work to balance conservation with residents’ interests. His remarks came amid Congress protests over the proposed ESZ changes, including an earlier discussion of a 1-km zone in parts of the Kaziranga landscape.
