GMC Urges Guwahati Residents to Light a Diya for Swachhata Hi Seva 2026

Guwahati: The Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) has called on residents to participate in Swachhata Hi Seva 2026 by lighting a diya at home and adopting cleanliness-focused practices. The campaign began on September 17 and will continue until October 17, with citizen participation forming a key part of the initiative.

Under its ‘Ek Diya Swachhata Ke Naam’ appeal, GMC has urged people to keep their surroundings clean, segregate waste at source and adopt sustainable practices. The civic body said the initiative seeks to promote collective responsibility for a cleaner, greener and healthier Guwahati.

The campaign is part of the nationwide Swachhata Hi Seva 2026 observance, whose theme this year is ‘Swachhata Mein Sahbhag, Swachh Bharat, Viksit Bharat’.

GMC manages solid-waste collection and related sanitation activities across Guwahati, including primary household waste collection and secondary transportation of waste.
