Assam Congress to Hold Guwahati Protest Over ECI Functioning

Guwahati: The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) is scheduled to hold a protest march in Guwahati on September 25 over what it alleges are irregularities in the functioning of the Election Commission of India. The march will begin at 11:30 am from Rajiv Bhawan and proceed to the Chief Electoral Officer’s office at Janata Bhawan, Dispur.

The Congress has also announced demands concerning Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, including his removal and an independent review of electoral-roll changes. The party has cited reported disagreements within the Election Commission over issues including the Special Intensive Revision, voter registration and deletions, Form 6 changes and electoral-roll IT systems. The ECI currently lists Gyanesh Kumar as CEC and Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi as Election Commissioners
