River Front Garden Inaugurated Along Nambul River in Imphal

IMPHAL: A new riverfront public space has been opened at Keishamthong Thangjam Leirak in Imphal as part of efforts to rejuvenate and conserve the Nambul River. Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh inaugurated the River Front Garden in the presence of Sapam Nishikanta Singh, MLA of Keishamthong Assembly Constituency.

The garden stretch from Keishamthong Thangjam Leirak to Ngakraba Bridge has been opened to the public under the state’s Nambul River rejuvenation initiative. The project is being implemented through the Department of Environment and Climate Change under the National River Conservation Plan. The Nambul River is among the rivers covered under the national programme, with the Government of India having approved a rejuvenation and conservation project for the river.

Chief Minister Khemchand Singh appealed to residents living along the river, civil society groups, local clubs and other stakeholders to cooperate in protecting the river and maintaining the newly developed area. The state government has stressed that community participation will be important for the long-term conservation of the Nambul River.
