ECI Removes Additional Voter Declaration in States Where SIR Is Complete

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has removed the additional declaration attached to Form 6 on its ECINET portal in states where the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls has been completed. The change took effect on September 30, allowing new voters in these states to register using the standard Form 6 without providing additional family electoral record details linked to the SIR process.

However, the declaration will remain applicable in states where the SIR exercise is ongoing. The additional requirement had sparked controversy after two Election Commissioners reportedly objected to making it mandatory. The ECI clarified that Form 6 itself was never amended and that the declaration was a separate annexure intended for use during the SIR process.
