Vaigai Superfast Express Covers 430 Km in Just 5 Hours 35 Minutes

Chennai: The Vaigai Superfast Express covered approximately 430 km between Chengalpattu and Madurai in just five hours and 35 minutes on October 24, against the usual seven hours and 35 minutes. Despite departing late and facing delays due to track maintenance, the train reached Madurai on schedule.

Operated by Southern Railway, the train reportedly maintained speeds of up to 110 kmph across several sections. Introduced in 1977, the Vaigai Express has a history of notable achievements in Indian Railways, including being the first metre-gauge train in India to reach 100 kmph.
