Olympic Medallist Lovlina Borgohain Inaugurates Fourth Mising Sports Carnival in Dhemaji

Dhemaji, October 29: Olympic bronze medallist and celebrated Assamese boxer Lovlina Borgohain inaugurated the fourth Mising Sports Carnival at Gogamukh in Assam’s Dhemaji district on Thursday. The sporting event, organised by Takam Mising Porin Kebang (TMPK), has brought together nearly 2,500 participants from various districts of the state.
The four-day carnival focuses on preventing child marriage and empowering women while encouraging young people to participate in sports. The introduction of boxing as a new competitive discipline has emerged as one of the major attractions of this year’s event.
Assam Education Minister Dr Ranoj Pegu attended the inaugural ceremony alongside Jonai MLA Bhubon Pegu and Lakhimpur MLA Manab Deka. Pegu appreciated the efforts of the student organisation in organising the carnival and encouraged the participating athletes to pursue their sporting ambitions.
The minister also expressed hope that the carnival would provide a valuable platform for identifying and nurturing emerging sporting talent from the Mising community, helping promising athletes gain wider recognition.
Organised for the fourth time, the Mising Sports Carnival seeks to promote sporting participation among young people while raising awareness about important social issues. The event also offers athletes from different parts of Assam an opportunity to compete, develop their skills and showcase their potential.
