Assam Education Minister examines academic progress, student accommodation and infrastructure requirements during visits to educational institutions in Maibang.

Maibang, October 31, 2026: Improving educational facilities and addressing infrastructure requirements in Assam’s hill districts took centre stage as Education Minister Dr Ranoj Pegu undertook a comprehensive assessment of schools and higher education institutions in Dima Hasao on Saturday.

The minister visited several educational establishments in Maibang, examining their academic environment, available facilities and developmental needs as part of the state government’s efforts to strengthen education across the district.

His visit included a district-level review meeting, interactions with college authorities and inspections of school infrastructure and student accommodation.

Education Minister Reviews Academic Progress in Maibang

The review meeting, held at PM SHRI Maibang Higher Secondary School, brought attention to the functioning and development of educational institutions across Dima Hasao.

Dr Pegu assessed the status of ongoing educational programmes, progress in infrastructure development and the implementation of government initiatives intended to improve learning opportunities.

The discussions also examined academic standards and the difficulties faced by institutions in the district.

The review provided an opportunity to identify areas where administrative support and infrastructure improvements may be required to enhance educational services.

Ranoj Pegu Visits Maibang Degree College

As part of his visit, the Education Minister also inspected Maibang Degree College, an important higher education institution in the region.

During his interaction with the college principal and teaching faculty, Dr Pegu discussed academic activities, existing infrastructure and the institution’s development requirements.

The discussions covered the college’s educational environment and plans for future improvements.

The interaction formed part of the broader assessment of higher education facilities in Dima Hasao, with attention to the resources available to support students and academic activities.

Student Hostel and Kalachand High School Inspected

Student accommodation and school facilities were another focus of the minister’s visit.

Dr Pegu inspected a 50-bedded hostel to assess the facilities available to students and examine possible requirements for improving residential accommodation.

He also visited Kalachand High School, where he reviewed the institution’s infrastructure and learning facilities.

The inspections were intended to provide a clearer understanding of conditions at the institutional level and help identify areas that may need additional government attention.

Focus on Strengthening Education in Dima Hasao

The minister’s visit comes amid continuing efforts to improve educational infrastructure and access to quality learning opportunities across Assam.

For a hill district such as Dima Hasao, adequate institutional infrastructure, student accommodation and effective implementation of educational schemes remain important considerations in strengthening the education system.

By combining a formal review meeting with visits to individual institutions, the exercise sought to assess educational needs beyond administrative reports.

The findings are expected to help inform decisions on areas requiring further attention, although specific new funding commitments or project announcements were not detailed in the available reports.

The visit highlighted the importance of evaluating conditions at schools and colleges to support future educational development in Dima Hasao.
