Indian Tourist Killed as Two Helicopters Collide Near Mount Everest in Nepal

Kathmandu, November 3, 2026: A morning helicopter operation in Nepal’s Mount Everest region turned fatal on Tuesday after two aircraft collided at a high-altitude landing site, leaving an Indian tourist dead and several others injured.
The accident occurred at the Pheriche helipad in Solukhumbu district, a mountainous region that serves as an important access point for trekkers, climbers and emergency rescue operations.
According to local authorities, the collision involved helicopters operated by Fishtail Air and Air Dynasty. The two aircraft came into contact during landing operations at approximately 8:11 am.
Indian Tourist Dies, Others Injured
Nepalese police confirmed that an Indian national travelling aboard the Fishtail Air helicopter lost his life in the accident.
The deceased has been identified as Vasanth Kumar Balaramaramadu, according to The Kathmandu Post.
Another passenger, identified as Shailesh Krishna Patel, a New Zealand citizen of Indian origin, sustained injuries and was evacuated to Kathmandu for medical treatment.
Both helicopter pilots also reportedly suffered injuries and were taken for further medical attention.
Emergency responders arranged helicopter evacuations from the remote accident site, while authorities continued gathering information about the circumstances surrounding the collision.
Helicopter Rotor Blades Reportedly Collided During Landing
Preliminary information released by Nepal’s Civil Aviation Authority indicates that the rotor blades of the two helicopters struck each other during the landing operation.
A video purportedly capturing the collision has also circulated widely on social media. However, the authenticity of the footage has not been independently established for this report.
Officials are examining the incident to determine the circumstances that led to the accident. Further information about the aircraft movements and the sequence of events is awaited.
Challenging Aviation Conditions in Nepal’s Everest Region
Helicopters provide an essential transport service across Nepal’s Himalayan districts, particularly in locations where conventional road access is limited or unavailable.
In the Mount Everest region, these aircraft regularly transport tourists, mountaineers, supplies and rescue personnel between remote settlements and high-altitude destinations.
However, flying in the Himalayas presents significant operational challenges. Mountainous terrain, rapidly changing weather, high elevations and limited landing space can make helicopter operations particularly demanding.
Pheriche, located along the popular Everest trekking route, is among the high-altitude locations where helicopter services play an important role in transportation and emergency evacuations.
The latest collision has once again drawn attention to aviation safety in Nepal’s mountainous tourism regions.
Authorities are expected to establish the precise circumstances of the accident as further information becomes available.
