AASAA Demands Special Land Rights and Recognition for Adivasis in Assam

The All Adivasi Students’ Association of Assam (AASAA) has urged the State government to provide special protection and recognition of land rights for Adivasis in the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC), Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC), and Dima Hasao Autonomous Council. In a memorandum to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, AASAA also called for SC and ST status for eligible Adivasi communities and the renaming of the ‘Adivasi Welfare and Development Council’ to ‘Adivasi Satellite Autonomous Council.’ They further demanded secure voting rights for Adivasis in Sixth Schedule areas, with Governor intervention if necessary.
