AASU Opposes Fee Waiver Cut for Students With Backlogs

Guwahati: The All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) has opposed the Assam government’s decision to provide only a 50 per cent fee waiver to students with academic backlogs. The organisation has urged the government to continue a 100 per cent fee waiver for students from families below the poverty line, arguing that financial eligibility should not depend on academic performance.
AASU has also demanded a refund of admission fees already paid by eligible students and clear guidelines on whether the waiver will cover all four years of undergraduate courses. The students’ body has called for the withdrawal of the latest notification and continuation of full fee support for economically disadvantaged students with backlogs.
