AASU Submits Memorandum to Assam Governor Over Tezpur University Crisis

The All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) on Thursday met Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya and submitted a memorandum seeking urgent steps to resolve the ongoing crisis at Tezpur University.
AASU demanded action against Vice-Chancellor Shambhu Nath Singh, a probe into alleged irregularities, and appointment of a full-time in-charge Vice-Chancellor. The delegation included AASU leaders Utpal Sarma, Samiran Phukan, and Samujjal Bhattacharya. A charter of demands was also sent to Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
The unrest intensified on December 15 with a nine-hour hunger strike by students and teachers, seeking intervention from the Union Ministry of Education. Protests have continued since September, linked to allegations of disrespect shown to singer Zubeen Garg during the state mourning period following his death.
