AASU, Teachers’ Body Demand Revival of Scholarship Exams for Classes V and VIII

Guwahati: The All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) and the Assam State Primary Teachers’ Association (ASPTA) have urged the Assam government to resume scholarship examinations for Classes V and VIII from the current academic year. The organisations submitted a joint memorandum to the Chief Minister and Education Minister, opposing the examinations’ suspension since 2021.

The two bodies said the examinations recognise academic merit, provide financial assistance and encourage healthy competition among students in government schools. They termed the six-year suspension unfair to students and called for the immediate restoration of the examinations.
