AFSPA Extended for Six Months in Four Assam Districts
The Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA) has been extended for another six months in Tinsukia, Dibrugarh, Charaideo, and Sivasagar districts of Assam due to concerns over unrest in neighboring Bangladesh and its potential impact on regional law and order. While security conditions have improved in Assam over the past three years, the state government recommended continuing AFSPA in these districts. The Act was withdrawn from several other districts, including Jorhat and Golaghat, last year. The new extension is effective from October 1.
