AGP Clarifies Solo BTC Poll Bid Not Meant to Undermine Alliance Partners

Ahead of the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) elections, AGP leader and Barpeta MP Phani Bhushan Choudhury clarified that the party’s decision to contest alone in the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) is not aimed at undermining alliance partners like the BJP or UPPL.

Choudhury said the move was taken with mutual understanding and aims to strengthen AGP’s presence in the BTR. This comes amid internal unrest within AGP and delays in seat-sharing talks with the BJP.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma earlier commented that AGP should focus on winning seats rather than targeting BJP, as all NDA allies plan to contest separately. AGP has already declared plans to field candidates in 10 constituencies. The BTC elections, seen as crucial ahead of the 2026 Assembly polls, are expected to be announced by mid-August.
