AGP MLA Seeks Faster Land Patta Distribution for Guwahati Residents

AGP MLA Ramendra Narayan Kalita urged the State government to speed up the process of issuing land pattas to Guwahati residents, especially indigenous communities. Speaking in the Assembly, he highlighted that around 85,000 families living in hill areas since the 1960s-70s are still awaiting land rights, despite large-scale patta distribution across Assam.

Revenue Minister Keshab Mahanta responded that legal barriers exist in hill areas, especially forest and restricted zones, but added that efforts continue under Mission Basundhara initiatives, with some indigenous families already receiving pattas under the Forest Rights Act. He also noted that a survey has identified 366 landslide-prone zones in Guwahati’s hill regions.
