AGP Presses Claim to Contest Biswanath Seat Ahead of Assam Polls

With the Assam Assembly elections approaching, the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) has renewed its demand to contest from the Biswanath constituency, which it had earlier ceded to ally Bharatiya Janata Party in 2016 and 2021.

AGP general secretary Prabin Hazarika said the party leadership has asked him to strengthen the organisation in Biswanath and expressed readiness to contest if given the ticket, ruling out any Independent bid. Local AGP leaders claimed organisational activities have intensified and that senior leaders are receptive to the demand.

Meanwhile, AGP president Atul Bora said the party would soon finalise seat-sharing with the BJP, adding that the AGP is gearing up strongly for the 2026 Assembly elections to reinforce regional political strength.
