AHRC Rejects LoP’s Plea for Suo Motu Probe into GMCH Newborn Death

The Assam Human Rights Commission declined Leader of Opposition Debabrata Saikia’s request to take suo motu cognizance of a newborn’s death at GMCH on August 18, allegedly due to medical negligence. The AHRC clarified that suo motu cases can only be initiated by the Commission or court itself, not on external requests, and thus no case was registered based on Saikia’s letter.
