AIUDF Slams Assam Govt Decision Empowering DCs on Foreigners’ Detection

The All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) has opposed the Assam Cabinet’s decision to authorise Deputy Commissioners to handle foreigners’ detection cases, a role traditionally reserved for Foreigners Tribunals. AIUDF MLA Aminul Islam termed the move “illegal” and “undemocratic,” warning of misuse of power and accusing the government of using eviction drives for political gains ahead of the 2026 polls. He urged adherence to Section 6(a) of the Citizenship Act, stressing fair application of the law irrespective of community.
