AIUDF to Contest Limited Seats in 2026 Assam Polls, Targets BJP

The All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) has announced it will contest around 35 constituencies in the 2026 Assam Assembly elections, limiting its fight to seats with a realistic chance of victory. Addressing a workers’ meeting in Dhubri, party chief Badruddin Ajmal said AIUDF does not contest elections to split votes and reaffirmed that its main goal is to unseat the BJP government.

Ajmal criticised the Congress for organisational weakness and rejected claims branding AIUDF as the BJP’s “B Team”. He said issues like the NRC and alleged vote manipulation would remain central to the party’s campaign, adding that he may or may not contest the elections, depending on the party’s final decision.
