Akhil Gogoi Backs Law to Protect Indigenous Land in Upper Assam

Sivasagar legislator Akhil Gogoi has supported a law to prevent non-Assamese individuals from buying land from indigenous people in five Upper Assam districts. This comes amid protests by 30 organizations following the assault of a national player by non-Assamese individuals. Gogoi urged the government to extend the proposed land protection law to include Dibrugarh, Sivasagar, Jorhat, Golaghat, and Tinsukia. He also called for local businesses to employ 90% Assamese workers and use Assamese language signage. The incident has led to widespread protests and calls for strict enforcement of laws.
