Akhil Gogoi Confirms Sivasagar Candidature for 2026, Attacks BJP and SIT Probe

Raijor Dal president and Sivasagar MLA Akhil Gogoi announced that he will contest again from Sivasagar in the 2026 Assam Assembly elections, claiming his victory is “100% certain.” He said he aims to be part of the government and resolve constituency issues within five years.

Gogoi stressed the need for early seat-sharing among Asom Sonmilito Morcha partners to counter the BJP. He also targeted Union Minister Pabitra Margherita over the Zubeen Garg death case, alleging involvement and criticizing the SIT charge sheet as inadequate.

Responding, BJP Mahila Morcha state president Nilima Devi rejected Gogoi’s claims, asserting that he would lose from Sivasagar and expressing confidence in the BJP’s prospects in the constituency.
