Amid panic among residents over alleged fuel shortage, Assam govt assures adequate supply

Amid panic triggered by rumours of a fuel shortage and a lockdown-like situation, authorities in Assam on Thursday clarified that there is no crisis and that supplies remain sufficient across the state.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma urged residents to avoid panic buying, assuring that petrol, diesel, and LPG stocks are adequate. He emphasized that the government would have informed the public if any real shortage existed and reiterated that even at the national level, no fuel scarcity has been reported.
Earlier, the office of Kamrup Metropolitan District Commissioner Swapneel Paul also issued a notice confirming sufficient fuel availability in the district, with no indication of any shortage. Residents were advised not to rush for excess purchases and to report issues via the emergency helpline 1077.
The clarification follows long queues at petrol pumps across Guwahati, driven by misinformation. Officials warned that panic buying itself could disrupt normal supply chains and urged people to remain calm while avoiding the spread of rumours.
