APCC Slams Centre’s Gazette Notification on Immigration

The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) has strongly condemned the Centre’s Gazette Notification enforcing the Immigration and Foreigners Exemption Order, calling it a “vote-bank strategy” of the BJP.

Senior leader Ripun Bora alleged that by extending the cut-off date for granting citizenship under CAA from 2014 to 2024, the government is encouraging fresh infiltration, particularly in Assam. He accused the BJP of using infiltration as a political tool while failing to protect the state’s interests.

APCC further demanded that the Assam government oppose the order, pointing out that Mizoram and Meghalaya have already rejected CAA. Leader of Opposition Debabrata Saikia termed the notification a “second version of CAA,” warning that it undermines the Assam Accord and existing safeguards.

The party urged the people of Assam to reject the BJP in the 2026 Assembly elections.
