ASM Moves Supreme Court Seeking Review of Citizenship Cut-Off Year

The Assam Sanmilita Mahasangha (ASM) has filed a review petition in the Supreme Court challenging its October 17, 2024 verdict that upheld March 25, 1971 as the cut-off date for granting citizenship in Assam. ASM argued that the base year should be 1951, as applied across India, and termed the 1971 cut-off unconstitutional and harmful to indigenous communities.
