Asom Gana Parishad Announces Candidates for Lok Sabha Elections in Assam
The Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) has officially revealed its candidates for the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections in Assam, specifically for the Barpeta and Dhubri parliamentary constituencies. Javed Ali will represent the AGP in Dhubri, while Phani Bhusan Choudhury has been nominated for the Barpeta seat.
Expressing confidence in their candidates, the AGP aims for success in the Dhubri parliamentary constituency. This announcement aligns with the strategic collaboration between the AGP, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL) for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls in Assam.
In this alliance, the BJP is set to contest 11 out of the 14 Lok Sabha seats in Assam, while AGP will vie for Barpeta and Dhubri. UPPL will field a candidate in Kokrajhar. The Dhubri Lok Sabha seat, historically represented by AIUDF chief Badruddin Ajmal, is considered a minority-dominated constituency. The AGP is poised to present a formidable challenge to Ajmal, with Assam Health Minister Keshab Mahanta expressing confidence in winning the seat in the upcoming elections.
