Asom Sankhyalaghu Sangram Samiti Leader Arrested for Drug Trafficking

Abu Bakkar Siddique, the State Working President of the Asom Sankhyalaghu Sangram Samiti, was arrested by Nagaon police for allegedly supplying banned drugs. His arrest connects to case No. 73/2024 at Kachua police station, where he faces multiple charges under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.

Siddique was taken into custody at Juria market in Nagaon district. Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime) Partha Pratim Saikia reported that the investigation, which began three months ago as a domestic dispute, uncovered a conspiracy involving Siddique supplying drugs to Abdul Malek, who reported the drugs stored at his home.

Saikia noted that Siddique previously faced accusations of preventing Muslim laborers from traveling for work. The police have seized Siddique’s vehicle, and calls for stringent action against drug-related offenses have intensified following his arrest.
