Assam Aims to Boost Rooftop Solar Power Amid Huge Untapped Potential

Assam has a rooftop solar potential of 13,428 MW but currently generates only 60 MW. The state’s new Integrated Clean Energy Policy targets 1,900 MW by 2030, up from the 300 MW goal in the 2022 policy. Challenges include high costs, low awareness, and limited vendor availability. Guwahati has the highest solar potential, while Barak Valley remains underserved. Experts say harnessing this potential could power the entire state and create 1.8 lakh jobs.
