Assam and Arunachal Pradesh Unite to Combat Illegal Cross-Border Liquor Trade

Assam and Arunachal Pradesh have agreed to collaborate in tackling the illegal cross-border liquor trade between the two states. In a meeting attended by Arunachal Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein and Assam Excise Minister Keshab Mahanta, both states acknowledged revenue losses due to the illicit trade. The officials agreed to share information between their excise departments to curb the issue.

Arunachal Pradesh pledged full cooperation, with Deputy CM Mein stating that most loopholes allowing illegal liquor entry into Assam have been addressed. Despite measures taken by Assam, such as setting up checkpoints and recent seizures, the illegal trade persists. Recently, Assam excise officials seized liquor worth Rs 6 lakh in the Sonitpur district. Both states are now committed to a joint effort to resolve this ongoing problem.
